This course is designed to equip beginners with the essential knowledge regarding the relationships and linkages between macroeconomic variables. Participants will conduct a detailed exploration of economic growth, inflation, interest rates, balance-of-payments, and exchange rates, mastering key macroeconomic indicators. The course further navigates through the roles of governments and central banks in setting fiscal and monetary policies, and their impact on firms' growth and valuations. Practical examples and case studies will be utilized throughout the course to enhance the application of learned concepts in real-life scenarios.

Ahmed Shams El Din

A prominent Egyptian Finance professional, professor and distinguished speaker. Currently, he holds the position of Managing Director, Global Head of Research and Member of the IB Management Committee at EFG Hermes, the leading investment bank in the MENA region and across the Frontier-Emerging Markets asset class. He heads a team of highly-qualified Emerging Markets financial analysts in more than ten countries across Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Asia and has taken remarkable strides in expanding EFH Hermes’s coverage to 25 emerging and frontier markets. He is also a member of the board of directors of several companies in fintech, supply chain and technology and sits on the advisory board of some investment funds.   As an Adjunct Faculty of Management at the American University in Cairo (AUC), Shams El Din taught finance and investment to MBA and Master of Corporate Finance (MCF) students, as well as undergraduates. He writes frequently on economics and financial markets for local and international newspapers.     A top-ranked financial analyst in EMEA by international investors, Shams El Din assessed and valued some of the largest MENA-listed companies in oil and gas, petrochemicals, fertilisers, mining, construction and building materials, logistics and other industries. He was a core contributor to the successful conclusion of most of the largest corporate deals and initial public offerings (IPOs) in the MENA region and on the London Stock Exchange (LSE).
